School Holidays
I constantly struggle with balance. Making sure I’m giving fairly to all the different areas in my life. Is the laundry done? Are my floors mopped? Are the kids happy? Did my husband eat? Did I read the Bible today? Are my nails done? Did I finish that assignment at work? Etc. etc.
But lately I’m realizing that sometimes it’s okay to ignore it all and just do something fun.
Fortunately for Kendra, my idea of fun this day was ignoring my to do list and spending the day with just the two of us. Something that happens once in a blue moon.
Her school was closed for a Jewish holiday, so we ventured out to a small local zoo and enjoyed seeing the various animals and even feeding the goats. This is a big deal for Kendra, because at one point she was deathly afraid of all animals. I was so proud to see her, slight hesitation, but willingness to pet and feed the animals.
This was immediately followed by a trip to the park where, I don’t know about you, but I did my usual helicopter Mom thing. Which was good because I got about ten “Mommy did you see that”s Lol. I only convinced her that it was time to go by letting her know it was time to grab some lunch.
She demanded McDonalds, and as much as I am not a fan, I wanted her to feel special. So we went and she got her My Little Pony happy meal. Lol, amazing the things that make a six year olds day.
Overall we had a great day and I hope to do something else soon. To break the monotony of life’s balancing act.
